Sweeping an oval to a vanishing point

Given a convex region in the plane, and a sweep-line as a tool, what is best way to reduce the region to a single point by a sequence of sweeps? The problem of sweeping points by orthogonal sweeps was first studied in [2]. Here we consider the following slanted variant of sweeping recently introduced in [1]: In a single sweep, the sweep-line is placed at a start position somewhere in the plane,...

An Optimised Vanishing Point Detector

In this paper we use line segments from a Hough transform algorithm to locate vanishing points in an image. The line parameters have already been determined to high accuracy, and the purpose of this paper is to present a scheme for locating the vanishing points from the line intersections which takes full advantage of this accuracy. We present a natural generalisation of the usual accumulator m...

Vanishing Point Detection with an Intersection Point Neighborhood

A new technique to automatically detect the vanishing points in digital images is presented. The proposed method borrows several ideas from various papers on vanishing point detection and segmentation in sparse images and recombines them with a new intersection point neighborhood on Z.

Vanishing Point Detection

Commencing with a review of methods for vanishing point (VP) detection, a new approach is suggested. The proposed approach estimates the location of candidate vanishing points and provides probability measures which reflect the likelihood of those points being the VPs. This new approach allows VPs to be identified in less structured environments compared with its conventional counterparts.

Do Engineers Use Convergence to a Vanishing Point when Sketching?

We wish to determine whether design engineers commonly use central projections (convergence of parallel lines to a vanishing point) when sketching new shapes, rather than draw physically parallel lines as parallel. This paper describes a pilot experiment carried out to determine the presence and importance of central projections. Results suggest that designers rarely use vanishing points when s...
